Behind The Name (UEP)

The UEP is a program of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation (EMKF). The Kauffman Foundation is an approximately $2 billion, private, nonpartisan foundation that works to harness the power of entrepreneurship and innovation. EMKF is the largest foundation in the world dedicated to entrepreneurship.
- The UEP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that:
- Was originally established to ENCOURAGE and ADVANCE minority entrepreneurs
- COACHES and EDUCATES entrepreneurs
- Fosters innovation
- INCREASES the number of PROFITABLE and SCALABLE businesses
- Offers a UNIQUE and COMPREHENSIVE approach to ENTREPRENEURIAL EDUCATION
- PERSONALIZED 1-1 coaching
- Clients receive intensive business coursework and a PDP (Personal Development Plan)
- The average coach/client engagement is 9 months
- The UEP is a proven entrepreneurial education program with a unique 1-1 coaching model.

UEP Detroit 150

- The UEP Detroit 150 is a program of the Kauffman Foundation.
- Challenged by the turbulent economic environment, many minority
auto suppliers in the automotive industry have been forced to
reorganize. The UEP Detroit 150 is assisting 150 of these high-growth
minority auto suppliers (located in seven Michigan counties: Wayne,
Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Monroe, Livingston, and St. Clair) to
diversify their manufacturing base.
- These 150 clients receive subsidized coaching services.
- The UEP Detroit 150 is funded by a $3 million grant from the New
Economy Initiative (NEI), a philanthropic partnership dedicated to
Detroit’s economic transformation. The initiative is backed by $100
million in funding commitments from 10 nonprofit foundations.
UEP Gulf Coast

- Launched in late 2005 at the request of The White House in response to
the devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
- UEPGC operates offices in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
- The UEPGC is a customized version of the UEP program created to
specifically address the needs of businesses in the Gulf Coast region.
- UEPGC is open to ALL Gulf Coast entrepreneurs on a fee-for-service basis.
- The UEPGC offers subsidizes coaching services for entrepreneurs in the
following Louisiana parishes: St. Tammany, Orleans, St. Bernard,
Jefferson, Plaquemines, Lafourche, St. Landry, Point Coupee, East Baton
Rouge, Livingston, Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, Terrebonne,
Calcasieu, Cameron, St. Mary, Lafayette, Vermillion and Rapides.
- UEPGC is currently partnered with the Louisiana Office of Community
Development (OCD) to offer subsidized coaching services in the above
mentioned parishes.
Coaching & Education

With assistance from a UEP coach, clients will work through each
recommended step of their PDP. Their plan may include a series of
educational workshops covering topics crucial to business success, such as:
- Strategic planning
- Knowledge and innovation management
- Marketing strategies and planning
- Supply chain management
- Business process management
- Supplier development
These sessions may also include one-to-one sessions with a coach.
